Spektral Motion is a female fronted three piece rock band with driving dance beats. Spekmo blends the energy of trance and techno with the intensity of modern rock. Self proclaimed techno-rock artists, the sound of Spektral Motion is made up of MeLisa Lomelino, on vocals, Travis Krouse on guitar, and Ryun Hovind on bass guitar. Spektral Motion means a spirit of motion, which is what happens when MeLisa hits the stage with her high-energy performance.
All three members were born in central IL, home of Randy Roads, Mudvayne, and REO Speedwagon. The band members gained immediate notoriety on the college scene throughout Illinois, including ISU, ICC, and WIU. Their popular hooks and rocky music stylings make Spektral Motion appeal to diverse audiences, from coffeeshop settings to high energy dance clubs.
The band’s influences are drawn from Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Madonna, and Paul Oakenfold. The sound, labeled by reviewers as “edgy electroclash” and “rockno”, is best described by MeLisa who says, “Despite all the hoopla… we just think this is next evolution for rock and roll.” MeLisa has performed since age 3, dancing and singing in full costumes to audiences from clubs to weddings. She cites her main influences as Lady Kier from Deee-Lite, Nancy Wilson from Heart, and Cyndi Lauper. She adds, “Yeah my parents were pimping me out way early in life….but I loved it.”
A critical 1998 performance at ICC’s Battle of the Bands launched them into a successful run of indoor venues, from the legendary Armory to weekly gigs at Inn-Cahoots to a packed performance at the coveted ISU Bone Student Center. “Spektral Motion revved up and took over the crowd. MeLisa’s presence was astounding, and the band’s tight, high-energy blend of rock kept the party going,” writes T and T Magazine. Anomaly Studios said, “Spektral Motion had the right sound at the right moment to make a crucial scene (in our film) work.” Spektral Motion has played with Wesley Willis, Third Day, Havalina Rail Co., and IL favorites Crimson Dive and The Amazing Kilowatts.
As Spektral Motion’s fan base was growing to include outdoor concerts and festival appearances, so was the desire to expand their audience so the band relocated to Nashville in June of 2002. With its 2003 website, growing new fan base, and an evolving sound, Spektral Motion plans to infect audiences of all types all over the nation.
