Just curious, but which desktop/small-keyboard VA would you take:
Roland JP-8080
Waldorf Q Rack
Waldorf micro-Q Keyboard (when it's released)
Novation Nova
Clavia Nord Rack 2
Korg MS-2000 Keyboard
Access Virus b

All of these are roughly $750-$1200us. Which one would you say has the most cryptic interface (I like that sorta thing)? Which has the most modulation posibilities? I don't much care about the sound, as effects and careful planning can change everything. How do the knobs feel, and do the send CC's, and not those heinous nrpn's? How noisy is it? Is midi sync on the ball, or does it lag? How is the vocoder in them, in other words, does it function? I have all the info/sounds from Keyboard magazine about the vocoders, I just wanted to hear some opinions. I've heard alot of mp3s of all these, I haven't been able to play with any of them, I live hundreds of miles from anywhere that carries them.

Wow, I take massive offense to that. The Virus is more than a match for the Q rack. I like it better, actually. The Supernova plays in the same league too, if you like it's sound. The Nord is less full featured but sounds dynamite and weighs in at $500 less than a Q rack.

Didn't you post this question in another forum?

Modulatable filter routing? 25 band Vocoder? Waldorf sound quality? 4 multi-mode envelopes per voice? Wavetables with FM? Gnarly lo-fi sample-rate killers in the f/x? ~0.1hz-40+kHz accurate freq response? Don't get me wrong, I do love the Virus too, but it's no match for the Q-rack. I wouldn't say it's for everybody, and the old knobs don't feel that good or respond quite the way I'd like them too. I haven't played with the new ones yet, probably won't unless a miracle happens and for some reason I end up with a second one. You say sound quality's not a factor? What's wrong with you?

About sound quality. It's my opinion that counts. Not yours. Sorry about that sounding rude, but I don't want to hear what people say about the sound of something. People say the EA1 sounds like crap, but I can get some really cool noises out of it. People say the Alpha Junos kick ass, I actually believe that. The 01/w sounds as good as the annoying whistle on my tea pot (the preset waveforms anyway, but yea for waveshaping). I was asking about the architecture and intuitiveness of the synth, not the sound quality.

Blah Blah Blah Nord. Blah Blah Blah Nova. Blah Blah Blah Virus. Blah Blah Blah Waldorf. Blah Blah Blah the oscillators aren't smooth enough. Blah Blah Blah blue LEDs. Blah Blah Blah Red Herring.

AGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I like how most of the products I've listed sound.

By the way, did Quasimidi disappear?
