Foue months ago, I loaded the latest OS, beta version,
My s/n started to malfunction and had to take in for repairs. I still don`t have my synth back, and returned to me twice with some sort of malfunction. I`ll never buy novation again, its not a bad synth but too delicate and extremely difficult to repair unless you send it to novation in the U/k. I live in the middle east and am currently 1 synth less. Apparently Novation has a reputation for sloppy manufacture and faulty goods.....

sorry, but the anti novation-company stuff, it wears me down cos people seem to use this forum like we have something to do with it... and besides marom are also the distributor arent they?.. so they must get a fair old wack of profits.

Um, I don't think loading up a new OS would cause this kind of problem. Definitely a hardware fault. As for reliablity I don't think Novation are any worse than Korg or Yamaha etc. I have had my Korg Prophecy repaired twice, once at my expense and once under guarentee. The filter knob on my SN is slightly faulty, so I suppose it will have to go in for repairs sometime.

I just bought a Waldorf Q rack which is built like a tank and is one of the very few pieces of gear I've bought that worked out the box. But there are a number of small bugs in the software that mar an otherwise excellent synth. I think the more knobs and buttons you have on a piece of gear, the more likely you are to have problems in the future. At least if you have rack VAs you don't loose the use of a master kb if it needs repairs!

My pulse as built like a tank too ....shame that had no reflection on its reliability, flakiest synth I ever had. And that was my 2nd one because I couldn`t even plug both output jacks in on the first they sent me.

I agree that its unlikely an OS will cause HW difficulties ....sounds pretty ludicrous to be honest. You gotta do what you feel is right, but dropping a euro-dsp synth in favour of an American analogue because of reliability is quite humerous to be honest. Not that I`ve heard any bad stories about the omega, just about virtually every other american analogue ever made. Hope you never have to send that beastie all the way back to the US for repairs.

i think the whole problem is that like in all commerce the distributors get WAY to high a cut leaving fuck all for retailers - this causes two problems. 1. only big box shiters stay in biz killing local music shops, 2.manufacturers have to cut corners with manufacturing parts quality to subsidise the massive distributor overheads, cos if they didnt then the price'd go up... i'd like to see better construction accross the board dfrom ALL manufacturers and that difference to be NOT passed on the the end user by trimming off the distributors huge margins.

K- I wanna load a track into the music section of Dancetech, how do I do it. Do I simply burn the track onto cd in mp3 format and then submit the track,--what do you mean by retail laws, I`m not with any label, just making music for the fun of it and looking to get feedback from other people .
I wish my music was good enough to be worried about retail laws....I`m sorry if I wore you down with my bitching, I had to vent out my fustration somewhere......
As with regards to choosing a dsp synth to analogue is a matter of sound, I think u dudes r right about the fact the all synth manufacturer do put out products that will be faulty sooner or later, its a pity though, very fustrating when u r busy on a track and equipment does not function like it should, but I guess that is part of the deal. Cheers

I had one bad experience with another synth and I was just hoping it wasn't going to happen again
We all know how much it sucks to pay your hard earned cash, wait for a while (if mailed), and then get a piece of gear that doesn't work. Thanks for the reassurance;o)

I've had my SN for about a year and a half now with no problem whatsoever.

Yeah, of course there is always someone who'll end up with one of the faulty peices of equipment but i bought my first synth, a supernova, in late '98 and have experienced ZERO problems ( apart from the minor bugs, which have been fixed in later O/S's).
So if people get problems it is usually due to a one of/rare fault in the product.
