lol - that Rooney goal tho - real 'Roy of the rovers' stuff - did you notice how he stopped the follow thru on the kick, bloody superb, that's real thinking football, like a frikkin rocket it was!, and Scoles header... he just arched his neck back and that was great control man, very good.... trouble is, will they be consistant, i get the feeling sometimes England have too much placed on their shoulders by the nation/media - it's only a game after all, but i feel sometimes the nation uses footbal as some sort of superiority trip over 'the bloody foreigners' - perhaps england would do better if every international game wasnt being psychologicaly seen as some re-make of WW2

lol - d'you know what I mean?... if you go into a contest with an attitude like "We rule the damned foreigners" then it becomes a confrontation, the wrong vibe, and i think that is a stumbling block for England, cos you are always setting yourself up for a fall with that attitude i reckon

dunno if its a case of the english having a superiority complex, or wanting to conquer. Its just that things are so shite with that c*nt Blair in power that they want something to take their minds off it. And lets face it, it does unite the nation like no other event. i think it may be the assumption that we invented half of the best games in the world (although tyhe assumption is often wrong) which means we feel we should be superior in them.....plus australia, germany, south africa, ireland, scotland, wales hate us in sport but not nessecarily for sporting reasons so you could see why we retaliate....

the media does put too much onus on the players.....so what if owen hasn't scored? doesn't make him crap and doesn't take away what he has already done for the team.....

rooney really impressed me last night, he still thinks he's down the park sometimes but both goals were phenomnal, as were the runs, the control.....oh and scholes' was excellent....they could have so easily cocked up from that angle but made it look so easy...

Euro 2004, like any other major footie tournament, brings people together, gets strangers talking to eachother in pubs, all having a good time, just for a month every 2 years. Those very same people you chant with, jump up and down with, even hug will be the very same people who'd glass you in the face any other day. Thats gotto be a good thing. Politics, capitalism, or patriotism doesnt come into it, its just nice to feel good for that short space of time. Euro 96 I found myself getting pissed up with Dutch, Germans, French, Italians. It was facking brilliant. You cant knock that.
